Getting your Diving Project Approved
A series of steps are necessary for getting your
diving project approved. The steps can be seen below:
1.
INITIAL APPOINTMENT: Set up an appointment with
the Office of Safety and Security to discuss the needs of your project.
If appropriate, you may also be reffered to your College Diving
Supervisor or be advised on any training you might need. YOU WILL
NEED THREE COPIES OF ALL PAPERWORK...one to be handed in to Saftey &
Security, one to hand in to your College Diving Supervisor, and one to keep for
your own references and records.
2. COMPLETING
YOUR INDIVIDUAL DIVING PAPERWORK: Make sure the intended divers on your
team are current on all of their diving qualifications and requirements.
a
EXPERIENCE FORMS: Have each of your divers
fill out an experience form. Please note that the experience of the divers on
your team will need to be discussed with Saftey & Security.
b.
PHYSICALS: All divers need to have a
scientific diving physical on record. Physicals can be obtained locally through
A.P. Beutel Health Center or through Scott and White Occupational Medicine.
Print the physical form and take it to the physician for completion.
i.
NOTE: PLEASE READ THE PHYSICAL FORM CAREFULLY BEFORE
COMPLETING IT. AT CERTAIN PLACES, THE PHYSICIAN NEEDS TO INITIAL BOXES, RATHER
THAN CHECK THEM.
ii. All
first-time scientific divers will need a physical, which will need to be
repeated periodically depending on age. For divers under 30, the physical will
need to be repeated every 5 years. For those between 30 and 40, the physical
will need to be completed every 3 years, and for divers over 40, the physical
needs to be completed every 2 years.
c.
DIVER’S INSURANCE: All divers will need to hold DAN
Accident Insurance or equivalent insurance from a different agency. Divers Alert
Network is considered the leader in accident insurance coverage for divers, and
is STRONGLY recommended. Read more about various DAN insurance plans on their
website. Make 3 copies of each diver’s DAN insurance card for records.
d. CERTIFICATION
CARDS: Make 3 copies of all C-Cards for your divers.
3. SCIENTIFIC
DIVE PLAN APPLICATION: Fill out the dive plan as specifically and
thoroughly as possible.
4.
GETTING YOUR PAPERWORK APPROVED:
When your paperwork is complete, contact the Office of
Safety and Security again to set up an approval appointment. Any deficiencies
can be addressed at this time.
